    Residential Adaptation Assistance Program Quebec

    Who qualifies for financial assistance?

All people with disabilities whose limitations affect their daily activities are eligible for financial assistance, provided:

they submit an occupational therapist’s report stating that their impairment is significant and persistent and requires an alteration to their home.

What type of work is admissible?

Examples include the installation of an outside access ramp, rearrangement of bathroom, widening of door frames, and so on.

    Which buildings are eligible?

What does the financial assistance consist of?

Financial assistance is provided in the form of a subsidy of up to $16,000 per eligible person. In certain specific cases, the SHQ may pay additional financial assistance of up to $7,000.

In cases requiring specialized equipment, additional assistance not exceeding $10,000 may also be paid, based on certain criteria identified by the SHQ.

    Application for financial assistance

Since the work becomes an integral part of the building, the application must be made by the landlord.

The application process is as follows:

    1. INITIAL APPLICATION

Applicant must first call its SCCC (CLSC) or the city at 514-872-4630 to check their eligibility for financial assistance. If eligible, the applicant must then obtain a “Program Application Form” at a SCCC (CLSC) or the SHQ.

The applicant should then send the completed form signed by the landlord of the eligible building to the SHQ for examination and entry on the waiting list, where applicable.

    2. CREATING THE FILE

When it is the time to process the application, the SHQ sends written notification to the health institution responsible for producing the occupational therapist’s report, and to the city. The city then puts together a file of the eligible work, based on the occupational therapist’s report, and establishes the amount of financial assistance required.

    3. APPROVING THE FILE AND EXECUTION OF THE WORK

Once the file is complete, the city approves it and authorizes the applicant to begin the work. The work must be completed within 12 months from the approval date of the financial assistance.

N.B. No work should be undertaken before the financial assistance is approved and the required permits are issued, otherwise the financial assistance could be cancelled.

    4. PAYMENT OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The financial assistance is paid in full to the homeowner when the work has been completed and the city has checked to ensure that it has been carried out as agreed.
