Montreal Home Ownership Program

The Home Ownership Program was adopted by City Council at its meeting held on January 23, 2012. By virtue of this by-law, the portion of the program involving the reimbursement of the real estate transfer tax (“welcome” tax) for households without children was abolished on February 1, 2012.

As of this date, applications may no longer be submitted by a household without children for the purchase of an existing building with two or three above-ground units. In addition, as of February 1, 2012, if a household without children submits an application for the purchase of a new residential unit, they will not receive a partial reimbursement of the real estate transfer tax.

They will however be eligible for a lump-sum amount of $ 4,500.
